Eddie Murphy’s New Movie “Norbit” Seeing Protest

Posted by Brian

Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy’s new movie Norbit is being protested by activist and community leaders nationwide as they say his portrayal of a “Fat black woman” is direspectful and humiliating to black women. This pic is pretty ridiculous.

Eddie you are funnier than that! Although I did think Nutty Professor was a hilarious movie, it seems that in this movie his portrayal of multiple characters has crossed the line. Afrobella writes a pretty interesting article on the topic here.

Eddie should take a look here if he wants an example of people to portray.

Did this same group protest Martin Lawrence’s “Big Momma”? Or Tyler Perry’s “Madea”, or is it that all the buzz on Murphy in “Dreamgirls” good timing to try to get some face time in the press for their cause?

It is socially and politically wrong for black males to continue to portray obese black women in films for humor. Tyler Perry, Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy may have caused a laugh from males but not from women. Not humorous at all. Shocking and hurtful to all. Sends terrible messages to young people.

I think Eddie is afraid to come out of the closet. He hangs with the gayest people in hollywood but claims to be straight. He’s just wanted to do this movie so he could dress up like a woman without raising some long overdue questions. I knew he was in denial way back in Arsenio Hall days whn they’d be wearing more bluch and foundation than their female co-stars.

I AM A FAT BLACK WOMAN IN AMERICA… and I see nothing wrong with the movie Norbit. Had Eddie played a skinny black woman that was just ugly there would be no problem. Why didn’t they critisize him for play fat black man as a professor Clump in The Clumps? America wake the hell up and get a life. I mean really, the man is putting laughter into his life. Stop hating on him because it’s fattening his pockets while you all are digging in your car seats for change!

    Moblacc-

…you may have liked the film, but that doesn’t mean the rest of us who found it tasteless are wrong…you’re not the spokesperson for Overweight Black Women of America are you? If you recall in the Nutty Professor Murphey didn’t just play an overwieght professor, Sherman Clump was the main character, but his mother was an overweight black woman, played by Murphey as well…Murphey depicted some of the pigeonhole veiws that society has about overweight people (In the Nutty Professor), and even though it was funny, the overall message in the film was good: learning to be happy with yourself–Norbit’s message kinda got lost in all the tasteless scenes and horribly unfunny appereances by corny actors like Eddie Griffin—the overall movie though was really more based on an abusive relationship moreso than making fun of overweight black women, maybe Murphey thought it would be funnier to make a hen-pecked man cower to an obese wife, all I can say is he’s had funnier films…oh and I may look for change in my couch cushions, but that’s because we have a wack president who has ruined the American economy, not because I make comments about Eddie Murphy’s diminishing comedic abilities these day…

In this pc age, Nobit was freshening. It was a funny farce. It’s odd how the pc police are offended at only certain things at certain times. One needs a list and a schedule to find out what’s acceptable and what isn’t acceptable. O.J. used to be a lightening rod for the blacks. Now he’s not. Fat white men can become caricatures. Not fat white women. Christians are irrational but Moslems are just misunderstood. The pc police are inscrutable. Get a life.
