NFL Player Dies Over Holiday Weekend
Posted by ShakeerTragedy struck the NFL and the New Orleans area once again over the weekend. The body of New England Patriots player Marquise Hill was found Monday, a day after he was reported missing following a personal watercraft accident on Lake Pontchartrain not far from New Orleans.
Hill’s body was discovered by searchers about a quarter of a mile from where the 24-year-old former LSU star and a female companion were involved in the accident, Capt. Brian Clark of the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department said.
Hill played on LSU’s national championship team and was a second-round draft pick by New England in 2004. Hill had yet to start for the Patriots, playing in 13 games in his NFL career.
Hill was a mountain of a man at 6ft 6in tall and more than 300 pounds, however, he was no match for the strong currents and didn’t stand much of a chance in the water because he was not wearing a life jacket. It is easy for me to say this tragedy could have been avoided had he been wearing a life jacket, but it is true and we all need to make sure we do all we can to be safe while enjoying the summer.
Marvin Gaye Still Relevant in 2007
Posted by ShakeerCheck out this link to an excerpt from the recently released DVD of some of Marvin’s greatest live performances on TV and film, “Real Thing: In Performance 1964-1981,” This live performance comes from the long out-of-circulation 1973 film, “Save The Children”.
Marvin Gaye “What’s Going on/ “What’s Happening Brother”
Pay attention to the scenes and lyrics and tell me what you think.
I think it is interesting that this country is involved in another war and gas crisis more than 30 years after Marvin asked us “What’s Going On?” ![]()
Yolanda King Dies at 51
Posted by BrandonActress, motivational speaker, and eldest child of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King has passed away. Ms. King’s cause of death had not been determined but seemed related to cardiopulmonary problems.
Yolanda King wrote and produced plays; gave speeches to groups that included elementary school children and Fortune 500 corporations; and acted in commercial movies. She edited a motivational book emphasizing the importance of diversity. Ms. King’s consistent goal was to infect her work, including her films, with her family’s deeper purposes.
She lived her entire life carrying out the work the her parents began…
Let’s to a minute out of our day for Ms. King and the King Family.
Did American Idol Get It Right?
Posted by BrandonWell last night America voted and Melinda Doolittle is gone.
I must say that with 2 black girls and 1 white guy left you gotta expect the black vote to be split between the 2 women. So who evers wins the black vote would be in the finals.
Melinda should have a good future in front of her. She appears to be a very good person and definitely has a great voice. She was easily the most consistant singer throughout the show.
Now the questions can begin…
Did 60 million people really vote??? (or is it 3 million people voting 20 times)
Did Melinda deserve to go home?
Did Melinda and La’kisha lose because of their look?
Ill put my answers in a comment…
Nick Cannon Is Shut Down
Posted by BrandonAfter reporting that Nick Cannon popped the question (here) to his girl Selita we have an update.
Spotted at concreteloop.com
It seems that Nick got shot down on his girls Myspace page:
“I HAVE TO CLEAR UP SOMETHING…..SELITA ENGAGED? NO WAY I must tell you, everyone thinks Nick and I are engaged but yet we are really not…I had to talk to him after the proposal because I felt he didn’t really do it for the right reasons…it was like a publicity stunt and all..I didn’t to much care for it at all…all I did was hug him and whispered in his ear “We truely need to talk for sure!…Which we did and this is why I’m not engaged right now! Thanks to you all for the blessings but I’m sorry the media had lead you astray! Don’t believe the hype of the media!”
So I guess they are still together but not engaged…We will keep you posted.
I give it 2 weeks before he is spotted out with someone else.
Military Gives MYSPACE The Boot
Posted by BrandonThe Military in recent news has suspended the use of Myspace, Youtube, and 11 other sites. Many soldiers were using myspace blogs to keep in touch with family and friends back home and to give them updates on life in Iraq.
The Military position is: “Internet use has become a troublesome issue for the military as it struggles to balance security concerns with privacy rights. As blogs and video-sharing become more common, the military has voiced increasing concern about service members revealing details about military operations or other information about equipment or procedures that will aid the enemy”.
What you think???
Hard to disagree with the security argument here.
