Did American Idol Get It Right?

Well last night America voted and Melinda Doolittle is gone.

I must say that with 2 black girls and 1 white guy left you gotta expect the black vote to be split between the 2 women.  So who evers wins the black vote would be in the finals.

Melinda should have a good future in front of her.  She appears to be a very good person and definitely has a great voice.  She was easily the most consistant singer throughout the show.

Now the questions can begin…

Did 60 million people really vote??? (or is it 3 million people voting 20 times)

Did Melinda deserve to go home?

Did Melinda and La’kisha lose because of their look?

Ill put my answers in a comment…

I voted for Melinda and Blake. I started Tuesday night thinking that I would vote for Jordin but I was not overly impressed by her performance. On the other hand Blake really surprised me. He got into “a good groove”, refused to reprise earlier songs and gave his all to the contest. I like Jordin but sometimes her efforts are a little subpar, discounting gems such as “I who have nothing” and “A broken wing” which, frankly, Jordin sings like no other. Melinda, I’m sure will make a great CD and I’ll buy it.
(Thus concludes the voting of the NJ jury on the east coast)

I think it was definitely the “looks” factor that hindered Melinda and La’kisha’s chances for winning. Although La’kisha had killer vocals, she sang with a lisp at times and that to me was another hindering factor for her. Melinda definitely has the superior voice between her and Jordan in my opinion, but Melinda’s older too, and for a 17 year old Jordan is doin her thang! People want a total package though, looks, skill, and talent. Melinda only had two out of the three, skill and talent. She was a great singer and was entertaining as well. Blake, for the young “suburbia” caucasian demographic will probably be veiwed as having it all, although I think he only has one out of three qualities people should look for, he’s talented, meaning he’s got a fair dose of stage presence, but he doesn’t have enough vocal skill in my opinion and his looks are pretty average as well. Jordin needs to work on her stage presence, but she has potential, like someone already pointed out she’s had a few star-like moments that show she’s a gem, I don’t know if it’s her age or what, but she hasn’t been consistent. Either way though she definitely has the vocals, but I don’t know if America will veiw her as “Idol” material or as “a diamond in the rough.”

Okay since Brian hasn’t updated his blog yet *hint, hint*, I’ll just add that I’m happy to say that Jordin actually pulled it off! Her vocals far outweighed Blakes vocal ability, there was simply no contest. America got it half right. She’s a true song bird and earned the title of an American Idol, the only regret I have is that she wasn’t competing with a worthy opponent in the final round. Melinda should have definitely been in the face off with her, instead of Blake the entertaining but vocally tanlent-less “court jester”.
