Marvin Gaye Still Relevant in 2007

Check out this link to an excerpt from the recently released DVD of some of Marvin’s greatest live performances on TV and film, “Real Thing: In Performance 1964-1981,” This live performance comes from the long out-of-circulation 1973 film, “Save The Children”.

Pay attention to the scenes and lyrics and tell me what you think.
I think it is interesting that this country is involved in another war and gas crisis more than 30 years after Marvin asked us “What’s Going On?”

It’s no question those lyrics are still relevant. In a lot of ways history seems to be circular there are many things that are happening again that took place decades ago. That’s what gets me down about music today is that in the world of soul and r&b there arent many songs that speak about the injustice.
