Twista Responds To Billboards

In an early post titled Chicago Church Places Billboards Around City Denouncing “Trash Rappers” it spoke of the Southside Chicago church Saint Sabina and it’s outspoken priest Michael Pfleger. The church spoke out against certain hip-hop music by placing billboards around town calling out  rappers who in their eyes use misogynistic and violent lyrics. Well one of those rappers was Chicago’s own Twista and here’s what he had to say about the billboards in a column at RedEye:

“What people need to realize is that we’re not forcing anyone to listen to our music, everyone that listens to it listens to it because they want to. We’re rapping about what goes on in the streets of our cities today,” Twista wrote yesterday (June 28). “The spots that these billboards went up at probably go through everything we rap about so the people there know what the music stands for.”

He further states:

”After Columbine and Virginia Tech why didn’t rock music get accused as much? If the kids who were responsible for those shootings had listened to rap I think it would have been everywhere that they did, but since they listened to rock music it wasn’t their music’s fault?”

He also noted that the money used for the billboards could have been used in a more positive manner.

“People need to stop blaming music for the things that go wrong because it’s the people doing things that are doing them and not the music. The money from those billboards could easily be going to help make the schools in Chicago better, which will help make the city better. People don’t seem to want to help and solve the problem but just want to find things to blame for what is going on. I love the city and give back whenever I can. I’ve been a supporter of schools like the Choir Academy for years and think it’s important to give back so that we can improve the city to get rid of some things that are going on.”

It’s about time a rapper fired back on this controversy but is what he’s saying right?

How many related banking services you’d like

Next time you’re out somewhere and you need quick cash you might want to think about this. If you use ATMs frequently, make sure the bank has plenty conveniently located near you. If you use another bank’s ATM, you might pay $3.00 or more for the privilege, once you combine the surcharge imposed by the other bank and the fee your bank charges for going to a competitor’s machine.

Today In Black History - June 30

In 1967 Maj. Robert H. Lawrence Jr. was selected by NASA as an astronaut in the Air Force’s Manned Orbiting Laboratory Program, thus becoming the first African American astronaut. The MOL project would eventually lead to today’s International Space Station.

Major Lawrence was killed later that year in the crash of an F-104 at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

Also on this date:

1847 Dred Scott, slave, filed suit in the St. Louis Circuit Court claiming his temporary residence in a free territory should have made him a free man. He would lose this case.

1974 Mrs. Alberta Williams King, the mother of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was shot and killed.

5 Snacks That Will Help You Lose Weight:

Kashi Chewy Granola Bars: they have 130 to 140 calories each, 4 grams of fiber, 5 g of protein, and they’re made with real nuts and whole grains. And they actually taste good

Frozen Peas and Corn: Freezing vegetables seals in their naturally sweet flavor. They’re firm, but not rock hard, and they melt in your mouth.

Total Yogurt: Skip the usual fruit-on-the-bottom suspects — high in sugar, ho-hum in texture. Try Fage Total Greek Yogurt instead. This imported greek yogurt is strained, which makes it fluffy. It’ll fool you into thinking it’s fat-filled, but the “0%” on its label tells you how much fat it really contains.

A Dressed Up Apple: If you’ve got 5 minutes and a knife, cut your apple up and mix it with some chopped walnuts and a teaspoon or two of maple syrup. Or eat it with a tablespoon of peanut butter to add about 100 calories’ worth of the satiating power of nuts.

Quaker Express Oatmeal: Classic Breakfast option that is more filling than dry cereal with the same calories and fiber content.

New Music: Bone Thugs Feat Mariah Carey & Bow Wow - Lil Love

Posted by Brian

Bone Thugs grabbed Mariah and Bow Wow for this track which is not bad. For some reason I like Bow Wow verse. Seems to be adding a little more swagger to his rhymes. Mariah hits a few erky jerky dance moves in this video that has me shaking my head, but her looks make up for it.
