The Miami Herald recently did a series of articles about racism in Latin America. It’s a powerful look at how white supremacy has permeated the Western Hemisphere. Please follow this link and let me know what you think of the articles. The pictures are very moving as well, I felt as though these pictures could have been taken in any number of neighborhoods in the United States.

I haven’t read all of the articles yet, but from those that I did read, it proves in many ways the struggle to be black and survive is the same no matter where you are. Being black is not the actual plight for me though. I love being brown skinned, I can deal with my kinky hair and my broader features, they come with some struggles at times, but they make me unique. How to be me in a world that hasn’t been fitted for my comfort is where the plight begins. If I had a place to call my own, if there was evidence of a “welcome sign” somewhere. If I could be at peace with myself and my Creator for making me carry this burden of rejection all my life. I hate when I see us change in order to fit in. I hate when we turn our back on our people because we feel there’s no hope in the hood. I hate when we believe ourselves to be something that we have yet to become. I hate us not knowing ourselves and loving ourselves truthfully (the good, the bad, and the ugly history>pre-slavery
