Journalist of color, three black and one hispanic will direct questions to Democratic presidential candidates during a prime time televised debate at Howard University on Thursday. This will be a first in American political history.

The debate in Washington, D.C., dubbed the All-American Presidential Forum, will be moderated by radio and television talk show host Tavis Smiley and will air live on PBS television.

Smiley commented that there are many issues that have not been discussed among the candidates and topics that have not been explored from a black perspective:

“Never before, since the Lincoln-Douglas debates in 1858, has a panel exclusively comprised of journalists of color and a black moderator queried a group of presidential candidates in prime time. Health care, education and the economy have been discussed to some extent, but these issues have not been discussed with us in mind. The candidates have not discussed these issues in-depth, but the questions have not been asked.”

This will be a great opportunity for us to get a good idea of who the democratic candidates are and find out what they believe in. With all the ”mess” America is in now, PLEASE TAKE SOME TIME TO “TUNE IN” TO GET TO KNOW THESE CANDIDATES, SO THAT YOU CAN MAKE AN INFORMED, EDUCATED DECISION FOR OUR NEXT PRESIDENT!

One comment...What do you think?

My question is this…. Will there be a forum for the Republican party candidates? As Black folk, we spend so much time listening to the Domocrats stroke our weaknesses, we have become blind to other possibilities. There are other solutions to issues in the Black community that can’t be addressed by a pat on the back of a new government program. For 50 years, African-Americans has supported the Democrats whole hartedly and we aren’t that much farther than before.

Listen, as a people, we need to remove our hope in the government and place it squarely on God. Its time to start stearing our children in the right direction. Issues in our community can be solved just by excercising basic biblical and common since principles. For example:
    * AID’s: Changes in habbit and culture can eliminate this virus from the black community. AIDS is the only deasese that has nothing to do with haredity or the genes you carry. It is spread by careless and inconsiderate behaveour. While there are exceptions to this statement, i.e. rape and medical transferance, if our teens stop having indescriminate encounters, the number of infections will decrease dramatically.

    * Graduation Rates: Students fail in school for many reasons, but most of them are a failure of parents to recognize their need to foster their children’s educational experience.
