An Open Letter To Black People

It’s our fault really. We didn’t raise them right and they’re doing what they know how to do best. We were their role models or lack thereof. We helped to raise this generation we see on tv rapping, singing, and playing sports. So it should come as no surprise when we hear or read about certain folks wildin’ out. Who was in Pacman Jones life that taught him he didn’t have to be accountable for his actions? Who told Michael Vick that his athletic ability supercedes consequences in life? Who told Lil Wayne and Jim Jones it’s okay to grow into a gang mentality and not out of one? Who told those Flavor of Love/ Charm School women it’s okay to be raunchy and disrepsectful to themselves?

It seems like we’re teaching the youth that talent, tv exposure, and money trumps everything. No wonder why everybody wants to rap, be an athlete, or by any means necessary get on tv. Nowadays you get to basically go to work in front of thousands in a stadium or gym, or perform on BET, VH-1, and MTV in front of millions and possibly make tons of money. Oh, if you happen to bust a gun in a crowd, illegally fight dogs, temporarily fall in love with a 45 year old former crack head, or promote gang life it’s all good you got money so you can do that.

You know the N word didn’t get buried it’s standing tall amongst the things we witness everyday on tv. My few examples of athletes/ celebrities I named are niggas… naw excuse me they’re niggers. They’re ignorant, disgraceful, simple minded, misguided niggers that make black people look bad. They help to fan the flames of stereotypes we’ve endured since setting foot on this land and black people are partly to blame. We didn’t teach them right from wrong when they were young, we didn’t teach them a sense of history and self respect. I don’t need them to be perfect I just need them to be smart. Although it’s not right nor fair I need them to understand that whether they like it or not they’re carrying an entire race on their backs when they appear on tv or in certain public places. The cameras are always rolling waititng to put your negative actions on blast and broadcast to the world just how “you people are.” I hate it but that’s how this racist society has worked for centuries now and we have to be smarter than that.

It sometimes amazes me how the Vick drama covers all the news stations all day yet Stepha Henry, Sean Bell, and Genarlow Wilson get very minimal to no coverage at all. People are up in arms about dogs being killed in fights (and they should be), or missing white people (and they should be) yet those same people have nothing to say about police using unarmed blackmen as target practice, or a college student missing in Miami? What does that tell us? I sure don’t see the protesting or boycotting and intensive news specials highlighting these injustices. When will enough of us stand up and turn the tide around and say no more or are we conditioned to lay in our own filth?
