Star Gives Up Secret…

Posted by Brian

star jones 071907

Glamour Magazine’s September issue, which hit the newsstands on  August 7th, is where Jones divulges her top secret weight loss plan.  It has been long speculated that Jones had the popular gastric bypass surgery to lose her weight, but Jones has never confirmed the speculation.  Jones has only stated before that she had “medical intervention” but never shared exactly how she lost her weight.

When asked why she is now willing to come clean, Jone’s (45) says:

“I wrote an article because I really wanted to go as in-depth as possible about the way I’ve changed physically over the last 10 years on the air,”  “And I thought that that would be the most effective way to answer every body’s questions.”

 OK OK OK

Are they really going to waste our time with an article to tell us that she had the gastric bypass surgery.  We know this already.  Then when asked why she never answered this before she is going to say it was no one’s business.  I have read this story and seen this movie tooooo many times before.

Star you actually looked much better with the weight on.  Now you look like a chocolate lollipop with that big ass head on those little shoulders.

Today In Black History – July 19

99thpursuitsquadron.jpg

In 1941 the first black airman’s school was dedicated in Tuskegee, AL. This event marked the formal beginning of the 99th Pursuit Squadron.

The first graduating class of the Air Corps Advanced Flying School at Tuskegee Field included Col. Benjamin O. Davis, Jr., who became the commanding officer of the 99th Fighter Squadron and later the 332nd Fighter Group. These units were unique in United States military history because all the personnel were African American.

The 99th Fighter Squadron went to North Africa in April 1943 and flew its first combat mission against the island of Pantelleria. Capt. Charles B. Hall was the first African American pilot to shoot down an enemy aircraft. Later the squadron, operating from its base in North Africa, supported the invasion of Italy and participated in the air battle against Sicily. The 332nd Fighter Group flew more than 3,000 missions in Europe and destroyed almost 300 enemy planes. Eighty-eight of the group’s pilots received the Distinguished Flying Cross, proving their test by fire a success.

Also on this date:

1848 Frederick Douglass attends the first Women’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, NY. He speaks in defense of their president, Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

1979 Patricia R. Harris, former law professor at Howard University, is appointed by President Jimmy Carter to the position of Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare. Harris was the first Black woman to hold a cabinet position.

Oprah Throws Obama A Bash

Posted by Brian

Oprah 071907

Variety reports that day time talk show host Oprah Winfrey is throwing a $2,300 per person fund-raiser for Barack Obama at her home in Montecito on September 8th.  This is good to see because it is the first time that Oprah has ever backed a presidential candidate.

In May, Oprah gave some very encouraging words to Larry King on Larry King Live.  Oprah commented, “I think that what he stands for, what he has proven he can stand for, what he has shown, was worth me going out on a limb for,”  followed by  ”And I haven’t done it in the past because I haven’t felt that anybody — I didn’t know anybody well enough to say, ‘I believe in this person.’ ”

Now I have never been the biggest Oprah fan in the past.  Always respected her success and hard work. but seeing her step up vocally and support Obama really makes me admire her more.

Now the party

Attendees will get to see Winfrey’s 42-acre seaside estate, called the Promised Land, which she bought for a reported $50 million. A $25,000 donation gets you into the VIP reception, while $50,000 gets you a VIP dinner.

The King’s Court Drinks Good!

Posted by Brian

LeBron071907

While at a Las Vegas club Lebron James’ friends ran up a $2,000 tab on Goose and Patron. Although sources from the club say King James only drank Red Bull he still got stuck with the tab. And after settling that bill, the King’s crew ordered another bottle of vodka for him to pay for.

I can appreciate a brother looking out for his crew, but I think this is where a lot of our Black superstars get themselves into trouble.  Scenario: LeBron stays sober the whole night, but crew is full of that good. At some point in the night all that liquor kicks in and somebody out of the crew starts to think they’re larger than life. When in actuality they’re nothing more than the man, sitting next to the man, sitting next to the man, sitting next to the man, who led his team to the 2007 NBA Finals. Long story short…that drunk idiot gets out of control, all hell breaks loose, it’s mayhem throughout the club, something crazy happens (shot, stabbed or an old fashion ass whoopin’) and all fingers point to LeBron.  Soon thereafter he becomes the next victim of the new world hustle.

Financial Tip Of the Day

You might also consider moving some of your high-interest credit card balances to a card with a lower interest rate. But read the fine print on any invitation to transfer balances. Sometimes such low-interest-rate offers are only in effect for short periods of time, after which the rate skyrockets. What’s more, consolidating your debt on one card may lower your credit score if your debt-to-available-credit ratio worsens.
