Barry Bonds Hits Home Run 756 To Break The Record

Barry Bonds

Barry Bonds hit the 756th Home Run of his career to break one of the greatest records of all time in sports. What excites me the most about Barry breaking the record is that he was able to keep hammering home runs under such scrutiny.

All of the steroid allegations against Bonds are just that, alleged. He has not been charged, tested positive, or found guilty of cheating in anyway. There are mixed opinions amongst people as to whether an asterisk goes by the record, but I tend to believe that much of the hatred and discontent with Bonds comes from the media. As I watched the highlights of Bonds tying the record on Saturday night, there where mainly cheers and a few boos. But to read about it later, I would have believed there was not a cheer in the crowd.

We often look back at players in the past and hold there accomplishments at a higher level when we consider the racism that they had to deal with in their time. What Barry Bonds has dealt with in the last few years has to equal, if not exceed, the pressure that those players have felt.

A good example of the type of B.S. that Bonds has had to deal with has been the actions of the commissioner. When the record was tied on Saturday night, the commissioner, Bud Selig, did not even clap, but decided to put his hands in his pocket. Selig was not in attendance for the record breaking night, but issued this ridiculous and insulting statement to the press:

“While the issues which have swirled around this record will continue to work themselves toward resolution,” Selig said, “today is a day for congratulations on a truly remarkable achievement.”

If that is not a backhanded compliment I do not know what is. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban wrote a very good blog post congratulating Bonds for doing it his way. He says Bonds never let the media scrutiny change the way he handled his business and he always put his family first.

If Cuban can congratulate Bonds, why can’t the commissioner of Major League Baseball? That’s okay Barry cause the rest of recognize greatness and applaud your accomplishments.

You know what else is so funny, if you look at the link on the Sports Illustrated site about “Sports Greatest Villians” most are black. The media in this country is so racist it’s comical!

It was a beautiful thing to see that happen. Does his head look bigger than when he was younger, yes. Did his feet grow a few sizes over the years, yes but as far as I’m concerned it’s all alleged. He did test negative I believe at point during this stuff. He did it his way and the media can’t stand it like you said. I love it now cause 3 outta the 4 home run leaders of all time are black!

Congratualtions to Barry Bonds! We all need to pay attention becasue once again history is repeating itself. Hank Aaron had to fight through all the overt racism of his day when he broke this record, Roger Maris got an asterik when he hit 61 homeruns, baseball has got to be the most arrogant sport in the world to think that just becasue some record is old, that it is untouchable. History shows that records are made to be broken. i’m laughing at all the fools who hold up asteriks and think Bonds should have the record, they are all idiots who can’t even play baseball and who I’m sure are not perfect people, so they have no right to pass judgement based on some illegally gained testimony that was “leaked” from a grand jury, kind of like how Scooter Libby leaked the Valarie Plame CIA information.

Congrats to Barry, I’m really just happy its over. Ironically the pitcher that threw the ball that bonds hit to tie the record tested positive for steriods while in the minors. Every era has its questions. Bonds is the best of the era and should get all his props.

Now he did admit to unknowingly using but its apparent that a large number of ball players were using Performance Enhancing drugs.

So what if his hats went from 6 1/2 to 8 3/4…
