Radio One Sells Georgia Radio Stations
Posted by KPopeRadio one, the nations 7th largest broadcasting company and the largest radio broadcasting company that primarily targets African-American and urban listeners has agreed to sell its rasio stations in Augusta, Ga., to Perry Broadcasting Co. Inc. for about $3.1 million.
The stations include alternative rock WAEG-FM, urban stations WAKB-FM and WFXA-FM, and gospel stations WTHB-AM and WTHB-FM. Radio One bought the stations in 2000.
Radio one has been struggling financially with market shares and profits falling all year. This sell is a great deal fro them as the price is roughly 17 times the station operating income for the 12-month period which ended June 30, the company said.
I think that people are getting tired of hearing the same records and singles being played every fifteen/thirty minutes on all of Radio One owned station. Something needs to happen quickly within the programming department to regain the confidence of the public and it’s listeners. In turn, profits will begin to increase. Of course there is more to it than this, but this is a good start.
