Joseph Cinque and other captured Africans who took over the Amistad and killed it’s captain and most of it’s crew were arrested in Long Island, NY on this date in 1839.

Fayetteville State University was founded on this date in 1867.

The National Association of Colored Nurses was founded on this date in 1908

Edith Sampson is appointed as the first Black delegate to United Nations by President Harry S. Truman on this date in 1950
