Stevie Wonder Disappointed in NAS
Posted by KPopeStevie Wonder has blasted Nas for planning to call his new album Nas N..ger, insisting the word is still offensive to many people. Disgusted, he explains, “I’m not with the word only in that we had buried the word and it should have been buried. People say, ‘Well we use it for fun and whatever.’ I’m not really feeling it and I know sometimes it comes in conversation… For all the pain that has happened over the years, what that word brings up, it needs to go away.”
Nas has been under pressure from the media and his label for using N..gger as the title for his LP. Of course the title has been changed- The album will now simply be called NAS.
And the debate continues…probably a great move by the record company. The word does harbor a lot of “bad” feelings, but on the other hand let an artist be an artist. I’ve seen far worse things over the past months-pics and murals entitled “The Assasination of Barack and Hillary Clinton“, Don Imus rants, Police beating the hell out of black kids on national tv. My hands are in the air with this one…

The reality of it is., . .the word is never going away. I can understand all the history behind it, I do. But for some reason the older generation does not see the power in the word as it stands now. It has made it to mainstream because of our kind giving it a new meaning, a new essence. One that we now dare, the original oppressors who said it as a form of degragation, to speak, to utter. They say it with protection behind them, but there is the silent rule that they will not under any circumstance just say it to us, now in 2008. You dont see the power in that? The other reality of it is that the base of the word is niger, which means black. We are black, its a black word.. . .Im nigga, use a nigga. .wouldnt you want to be a nigga? Other than the personal issues our black community is faced with, who doesnt want to be a nigga now? No. . .one. . our culture is wide spread. Im 1. We are 1. . .N1. . .Neva Ignorant. .Gettn Goals. . .Accomplished.
[...] Nas and Soulja Boy have just landed shoe deals with Fila and Yums. Fila, will back Nas‘ upcoming tour in support of his ”untitled” album as part of his one year partnership. In response, he says, “My best friend Will and I loved Fila. It represented prestige and everything that was cool to us.
