Kanye Strikes First Blood!!
Posted by BrianA few days back I posted the Kanye Needs Your Support! blog about 50 challenging Kanye to a record sales battle so to speak. Well it seems that Fif maybe already losing the challenge over at iTunes. According to the consumer driven downloadable website, Kanyeezy is selling far more pre-sales then that of his competitor.
Kanye is selling so much that his new album, Graduation, is #3 on the iTunes Top Albums chart. Fiddy’s Curtis is way behind at #9.
Wow this just might turn out suspenseful. Still along ways off of the Sept 11th date but if this is any indication of what’s to come a lot of you might get your wish of no more 50 cent albums. Stay tuned folks this just got more interesting!
McDonald’s Tells Twista to hit the Road
Posted by BrianRapper Twista, has been dropped from the lineup because of his “controversial lyrics,†the fast food giant said Monday. Twista was supposed to perform on a nationwide tour sposored by the hamburger chain.
The Chicago rapper is better known for his lightning-fast rap delivery than particularly raunchy content: His hits include “Slow Jamz,†with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx, and “Overnight Celebrity.†However, he does use explicit language and reference drugs in his some of his rhymes.
McDonald’s, which initially signed the rapper to perform in Chicago for its 10-city concert series, said it could no longer support Twista for the Aug. 7 performance. “Although we respect free speech and artistic expression, we do not condone or perpetuate derogatory language,†said spokesman William Whitman in a statement. “We want to ensure these free concerts are fun as well as appropriate for all of our customers.â€
“They started hearing things … feeling like they were getting a little flak, and I felt like rather than stick by me and stick through it, they got scared,†he said. “I’ve been rapping the same way for 15 years. It only became a problem when Don Imus said something negative about black women and they needed a scapegoat.â€
Twista said that typically, when he performs at events that are more mainstream and that attract kids, he cleans up his lyrics, and had intended to do so for the Chicago performance.
“I was actually going to have a school with a choir come sing the song ’Hope’ with me. So now … McDonald’s have to tell the kids that they can’t perform.â€
This whole situation is BS to me; Twista can’t make any money because of this criticism from a few people who don’t have anything better to do. Mickeys D’s knew what they were getting into when they signed him up. I hope he sues them and gets all the money they promised him because they breached this contract; he needs to get his ‘new school hustle’ on.
Heavyweight Bout Sept 11th
Posted by Brian It was posted a few days ago that 50 Cent, for the second time, had his album pushed back to a September 11th date. Well reports out of Def Jam are saying Kanye West is also dropping his highly anticipated album Graduation on that same date.
Of course when Fif is involved with anything there has to be a certain amount of controversy due to his chronic trash talking and he has fired the third shot at Kanye and Def Jam. He recently appeared on Hot 97 radio’s Funk Master Flex show in New York and said:  Â
“I hope that they see and understand what’s getting ready to happen. I’m not moving. I’m coming September 11th. If Kanye come that day, then he come that day. That’d be great if he actually stays in that date. I think his people are smart. And he’s smart too. And I think they’ll move… Jay’s not gonna let that happen anyway. He’s not gonna leave him there.â€
Basically he’s saying that his sales will eclipse Kanye’s sales that day and it’s not a good look for him to drop that day. Nothing wrong with a little competitive banter but this isn’t the first time the Queens native has taken shots at the Louis Vuitton Don. In one interview last year 50 called Kanye a safe nigga because kids and tv don’t feel threatened by him and his image and in another interview 50 is quoted as saying:
“[Kanye] said something in an interview one time that made me think about it. He said because he was raised by his mother, he has feminine ways,” he added “That right there is who Kanye West is to me. That statement is stuck in my head. He said it like he meant it”.
He just can’t stop it seems. Although it’s a ways away I can’t wait to see Billboards first week sales.  Honestly I haven’t heard anything hot from Kanye yet and in my opinion 50 scored with his new single I Get Money so time will tell what becomes of this mess. I hate to say it but I’m rooting for Kanye because I hate bullies and Fif’s been on the block too long talking reckless. Who do you think will sell the most that day?Â
Kanye And Knievel To Settle
Posted by BrianKanye West and self-proclaimed daredevil Evel Knievel are attempting to settle the lawsuit that Knievel filed against West in December.
The Associated Press reports that West notified a federal judge Tuesday that he and Knievel intend to use a mediator to try to settle the suit in which Knievel claims that West infringed on his trademark and likeness in his video for ‘Touch The Sky’.
West and Knievel have agreed to share mediation expenses.
Is it me or does this seem to be the new world hustle…find something to file a suit about and get paid. “Wait ’til I get my money right!”
Common May Have Found Forever
Posted by Brian“My daughter found Nemo/ I found a new Primo/ you know how I do it/ I do it for the people†that’s in the opening verse of Common’s latest single ‘The People’ off his new CD ‘Finding Forever’ out July 31, 2007 and they sound like some grown man lyrics. ‘Finding Forever’ is an appropriate album name for an artist who has managed to do just that in the fickle rap game. New Music: Kanye West – Stronger
Posted by BrianKanye once again proves that he is the last bit of originality and creativity in the industry. The song is actually slick once you get past the extra arrogance that accompanies every track of his. This is better than the usual hip hop video of an artist standing in front of two cars with all the people from the neighborhood in the background and a couple of dogs in the screen.
This video was produced by Hype Wiliams.
