Respecting the Past and the Future

Posted by Rod

Model turned TV talkshow host Tyra Banks dedicated her Daytime Emmy Award to talk show “Queen” Oprah Winfrey hailing the TV powerhouse as her “inspiration,” even though she failed a lie detector test earlier this year about being jealous of Oprah.  Banks scooped the gong for Outstanding Talk Show in the Informative category, beating off stiff competition from ‘A Place Of Our Own’ and Winfrey’s protege ‘Dr. Phil.’

When she was presented with her award, Banks was full of praise for the veteran presenter.  She says, “I want to thank Oprah Winfrey for her inspiration.  She is the queen.  She will always be the queen.”

Now this is how things are supposed to be.  The younger generation showing respect and giving praise to those that paved the way for them.  It’s a shame that we have young rappers taking shots at some of the pioneers who got hip hop to where it is or NBA players “freestyling” and calling themselves better than Hall of Famers.

At the end of the day we are all standing on the shoulders of those that came before us.  Most of us do what we love because someone before us inspired us. It either happened through personal contact or we saw and admired what they did and their passion for it. So we developed our own passion and set goals to expand on what they started.  Let’s get back to respecting what came before us, and allowing what comes after us to develop and grow.  Ludacris said it best in a verse of ‘Freedom of Preach,’

Don’t get me wrong, I know some people got a image to hold
But those who criticize the youth might just be gettin too old
We still travellin through life, findin what’s right or wrong
I know some folks may not agree or even like this song
But I’m just speakin MY truth, cause I heard it sets you free
And my conversation’s with God, even though he speaks through me
I’m smarter cause of my daughter, and I’m NOT too dense
I’m 28 years old, it just now started makin sense.

Disturbing Tha Peace Settles The Beef

Chingy has been recording with Ludacris and company on the new DTP compilation Strength in Numbers, and he is expected to put out his next solo project, Hate It or Love It, in November or December of this year.

Chingy left DTP back in ’04 claiming Chaka Zulu, co-owner of DTP, was being funny with the money. Ching-A-Ling appeared for the first time one stage since then with the DTP crew last month in California at the Powerhouse 2007 Concert.

I think it’s kind of funny (and I say that sarcastically) that this reunion went under the radar for the most part. Now somebody right now is reading this and thinking “it didn’t go under the radar, it just isn’t important.” And to that person or persons I say stop lunchin! Think about it. When all the drama jumped off there was coverage on who said what and who did what. Now that 2 brothers have decided to be responsible and professional, people want to act like it ain’t a big deal. This is the kind of little stuff the hip hop game needs. It’s what our young brothers and sisters need to see. All beef doesn’t have to end with someone losing their life. A hand-shake and an eye to eye conversation goes a long way. Well in this case there was probably a well defined contract also!

DTP’s album is set to hit stores August 28th. Click below to see the video for Celebrity Chick.

Ludacris and T.I. Still At War

Posted by Brian

Ludacris and TI

It might be just a coincidence that the TI vs. Ludacris war has picked up steam real close to TI’s New album, but they were at again this weekend.

Well not directly, at Kevin Liles Power Brunch, TI and Ludacris Manager Chaka Zulu at least had words and some are saying physical altercation.

Hard for me to pay too much attention when this stuff always happens before someones album drops. Plus they live in the same city and I am sure cross paths more than just award shows. Is this real beef or Hollywood?

You can read more about it here.

2007 Grammy Awards

Mary J. Blige and Ludacris

The 2007 Grammy Awards were one of the few times that I have enjoyed an entire awards show. The performances were outstanding and there was not too much of one or two people like usual. The big winners were Mary J. Blige, T.I., and Ludacris just to name a few.

I was pretty surprised while during her speech Mary J. said she had never won a Grammy before. That is shocking. Glad she can not say that anymore because she deserved a Grammy a long time ago.  For all of the winners go here.

Fergie’s New Video Featuring Ludacris - Glamorous

Posted by Brian

Check Out Fergie’s New video featuring Ludacris. Just okay, maybe a “C”. The songs says absolutely nothing. Haven’t rappers been talked about for years for only talking about money and riches? What makes this any better? I will let you watch and form your own opinion.  :)
