Tyra Banks: Hardest Working Celebrity
Posted by KPopeA new online poll has named Tyra Banks as the hardest working person in showbusiness. A model, talk show host and television presenter, Banks has become a minimogul since stepping down from the catwalk in 2006. Banks beat American Idol host and DJ Ryan Seacrest, Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum and Sean `Diddy’ Combs to claim the top spot on Parade.com’s annual Summer Pop Culture poll.
The poll also claimed Oprah Winfrey as the celebrity most people would like as a next-door neighbor and Nicole Richie beat Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise to become the celebrity with the Most Improved Reputation. Meanwhile, voters chose Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer as the Most Unlikely Couple and Halle Berry beat out Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Alba to claim the Hottest New Mama crown.
Respecting the Past and the Future
Posted by RodModel turned TV talkshow host Tyra Banks dedicated her Daytime Emmy Award to talk show “Queen” Oprah Winfrey hailing the TV powerhouse as her “inspiration,” even though she failed a lie detector test earlier this year about being jealous of Oprah. Banks scooped the gong for Outstanding Talk Show in the Informative category, beating off stiff competition from ‘A Place Of Our Own’ and Winfrey’s protege ‘Dr. Phil.’
When she was presented with her award, Banks was full of praise for the veteran presenter. She says, “I want to thank Oprah Winfrey for her inspiration. She is the queen. She will always be the queen.”
Now this is how things are supposed to be. The younger generation showing respect and giving praise to those that paved the way for them. It’s a shame that we have young rappers taking shots at some of the pioneers who got hip hop to where it is or NBA players “freestyling” and calling themselves better than Hall of Famers.
At the end of the day we are all standing on the shoulders of those that came before us. Most of us do what we love because someone before us inspired us. It either happened through personal contact or we saw and admired what they did and their passion for it. So we developed our own passion and set goals to expand on what they started. Let’s get back to respecting what came before us, and allowing what comes after us to develop and grow. Ludacris said it best in a verse of ‘Freedom of Preach,’
Don’t get me wrong, I know some people got a image to hold
But those who criticize the youth might just be gettin too old
We still travellin through life, findin what’s right or wrong
I know some folks may not agree or even like this song
But I’m just speakin MY truth, cause I heard it sets you free
And my conversation’s with God, even though he speaks through me
I’m smarter cause of my daughter, and I’m NOT too dense
I’m 28 years old, it just now started makin sense.
Oprah Tops Forbes Power List
Posted by RodOprah Winfrey has topped the Forbes magazine’s annual Power List for the second year running after netting an estimated $275 million in the past year. The top ranking is based on income over the past 12 months as well as web references, press clippings, broadcast mentions and major magazine covers devoted to the celebrity, Forbes said on its website.
The media mogul reclaims her title as queen of all celebrities on the newly-released countdown, ahead of golfer Tiger Woods, who came in second with $115 million.
Angelina Jolie is third on the new list, earning a fraction of those sums (14 million dollars) according to Forbes. The actress came out on top for the number of web hits, securing her place in the top 10.
Beyonce and David Beckham round out the top 5. While Jay-Z also found himself on the list at number 7.
Tyra Jealous Of Oprah
Posted by BrianCan’t say that I blame her. Tyra took a lie detector test on her show today and when asked if she was jealous of Oprah, she said “No.” When the results were revealed, it showed she was lying.
Watching that clip I was expecting Oprah to come running out the back yelling “I’m not that babies mama.” The lie detector tests need to stop.
Oprah Responds To Her Critics About Endorsing Obama
Posted by BrianOprah gained my respect with this speech at her most visit to the campaign trail for Barack Obama. A couple of months back Oprah received a lot of push back from her viewers who felt that she was betraying women and the people who supported her show by not endorsing Hilary Clinton. Many felt that as a women who has gain much of her popularity from a predominately base of women, more particularly white women, that she should automatically endorse Clinton.
This video answers all of those questions and what she thinks about what people have to say about her choice to endorse Obama. You can’t help but respect this type of response. I think she even became a long shot at getting her hood pass back when she hit them with “Don’t play me small.” If the N-word had not been outlawed, I think it would have made a nice punctuation at the end of that sentence.

Obama Improving In The Polls Versus Clinton
Posted by BrianWith the New Hampshire and Iowa primaries only a month away, according to a recent ABC News Poll, Barack Obama is narrowing the gap between himself and Hilary Clinton. The latest number show only a 6% difference among potential voters.
One of the things that may be helping Obama is the support and recent tour with Oprah Winfrey. Oprah is a huge supporter of Obama and their event planned for South Carolina next week had to be moved from the 18,000 basketball auditorium, to the the 80,000 seat football coliseum at the University of South Carolina because event organizers ran out of free tickets less than two days after they became available. Not sure if they will pack the place, but it sure will be a site to see!
Things should get crazy with advertising between Obama and Clinton very soon. With $75 Million raised by Obama and $63 million raised by Clinton, we will all soon see much more of them both then we could ever have imagined.
On a note that I find kind of shocking, African-American voters are more in favor of Clinton than Obama with the Congressional Black Caucus members split 15-12 in their support. Some believe this is because most believe Clinton stands a better chance of winning a general election than Obama. My thought is asking someone what they think on the street and then trusting them to do the same thing in the voting booth is two different things.
Either way a long and interesting race is becoming tighter race with John Edwards still lurking also. We shall see is Oprah’s midas touch for everything else has the same effect in a Presidential race.
