Russell Simmons former girlfriend has blasted reports the hip-hop mogul’s controlling ways led to their split. Former Star Search model Porschla Coleman came to Simmons’ defense on Friday (11Jul08), hitting back at claims his demanding personality put a strain on their relationship. She tells the New York Daily News, “I am not prepared to go into detail, but Russell is my best friend. There is no anger on either of our parts. It was a mutual decision. We just decided to be friends, and we’re both very happy.”

Coleman adds Simmons has even helped her redecorate her new apartment, now that she is moving out of the pair’s shared home. She says, “It’s around the corner, and he helped me pick it (the furniture) out.” The couple began dating last year but split last month (Jun08). Simmons was previously married to his former Phat Fashions colleague Kimora Lee. They separated in March 2006.

What a nice fella, keeping it cool with his Ex-helping move furniture, etc. Gotta keep it cool, when you are having a rough time with the lay-dies. Never know when you need to cash in that After Hours Pass, LOL! I feel you Russell, we have all been there at some point!

 

Things have changed from a few months ago between Russell Simmons and Barack Obama from when Simmons called Obama a Mouse. Obama has praised the pair as “great talents and great businessmen”, insisting he’s happy to have the support of the duo in the upcoming November election.
But Obama admits he still has reservations about the current state of music in the U.S., and hopes the industry will begin to take its cues from the business-minded music duo.
He says of his concerns of hip-hop culture:

“I am troubled sometimes by the misogyny and materialism of a lot of rap lyrics, but I think the genius of the art form has shifted the culture and helped to desegregate music. It would be nice if I could have my daughters listen to their music without me worrying that they were getting bad images of themselves.”

I know Obama is all about change, but our country has a lot bigger fish to fry than rap music. Plus I am sure this is causing Russell to use some not so nice words right now.

Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons is urging sponsors of football player Michael Vick to stop supporting the sports star after he was charged for operating an illegal dog-fighting operation.

Earlier this week openentrance.com reported that Vick was indicted by a federal grand jury for “conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and to sponsor a dog in animal fighting venture” on July 17.

Animal-loving Simmons has teamed up with civil rights activist Reverend Al Sharpton and People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) President Ingrid E. Newkirk to write a letter to Vick’s sponsors.

Since Vick’s controversy, Nike has announced it is dropping plans to release a special Nike Air Zoom Vick V football shoe.

Either I am reading the wrong blogs or I just can’t figure Russell Simmons out. I am pretty sure it is I can’t figure him out. Less than a week after his world tour against the lyrics in rap music, Russell has called Barack Obama a “Mouse” because of his statements against rap lyrics after the Imus fiasco.
